Baseball. Mizzou Baseball Set For Series at No. 8 Florida

The Mizzou baseball team, fresh off of a pair of midweek wins at Major Leagues stadiums, will resume SEC play at No. 8 and SEC East-leader Florida this weekend for a three-game series in Gainesville. The series opener will be Friday night at McKethan Stadium at 6 p.m. with Brett Graves squaring off against UF's Logan Shore at 6 p.m. (CT). Saturday's game will be televised on Fox Sport Midwest at 11 a.m. (CT) as Eric Anderson gets the ball for Mizzou. The Sunday finale will be held at noon (CT).

Along with that, the brief surge in political traction that UTEP coach Tim Floyd enjoyed also crumbled by Wednesday night.

- John Miles made his first midweek start of the season on Wednesday. It was his second start in four games after pitching last Saturday against Mississippi State.- Dylan Kelly ripped a single into left field to open the top of the second inning. He has now reached base safely in 18 consecutive games, his longest streak of the season and second-longest by a Tiger in 2014.

Baseball. Fairbanks Leads Mizzou to 5-2 Win Over Illinois

Peter Fairbanks (St. Louis, Mo.) went a career-best eight innings, holding Illinois (22-15) to just two runs as Mizzou (19-21) claimed a 5-2 victory over the Illini Wednesday (April 23) night at Busch Stadium. Fairbanks needed only 84 pitches in his eight innings of work, throwing 57 strikes and striking out three batters. The stout outing from Fairbanks enabled the Tigers to build a 5-1 lead in the fourth and fifth innings as Mizzou hung four runs on the Illini in those two frames.

After Wednesday's victory, Mizzou improved to 7-0 against Missouri State under head coach Ehren Earleywine. The Tigers have thoroughly controlled the last three meetings with the in-state school, outscoring the Bears a combined 24-0.
